Anadvocate for peace, justice and equality, Justin Sane has worked withlawmakers, activists and artists in the United States and beyond forprogressive change. In his youth live traditional Irishmusic and political discourse were front and center nearly every nightat his family’s home. Influenced by his family and growing up inPittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a gritty steel town steeped in laborhistory, it comes as no surprise that Justin went on to marry musicand politics together in the form of a passionate punk rock band.Justin cut his musical teeth in his small hometown punk scene andlater on the international rock circuit. His musical influences arediverse and reach far beyond punk rock, including everything from HotWater Music, Social distortion, and the Clash to James Brown, DavidBowie, Janis Joplin and Billie Holiday. On top of fronting Anti-Flag,Justin records and performs solo stating, “My solo project is notmeant to be or replace Anti-Flag. But as I see it Anti-Flag is a bandthat does something very specific musically and lyrically. WhatAnti-Flag does is obviously important to me however, I write otherkinds of songs too. Many of which don't quite fit the Anti-Flag style.So while my solo songs are sometimes anti-war anthems, etc, you'llalso find me writing about love, friendships, cats, drinking on thestreets, reading "The Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbook" and justabout anything. I could do this with Anti-Flag, but when we started itwas not our goal to play such songs.”Justin Sane’s first and only official solo release came in 2002 in theform of “Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Justice.” Justin is currentlyin the process of writing for a new solo release, with title andrelease date yet to be determined. « hide |
