Audioslave formed after the split of rap/rock giants Rage Against The Machine. Containing Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk from Rage, and Chris Cornell from grunge legends Soundgarden, they released three albums during their duration. Combining Morello's trademark riffs with Cornell's voice, considered by many to be one of the best in rock, their albums so far have shown glimpses of their full mighty potential without really consistently demonstrating their full range of talents.

In October 2000, lead vocalist Zack de la Rocha announced he was leaving Rage Against the Machine. The remaining trio decided to continue to work together and set about looking for a new singer. After jamming with several with several vocalists (including B-Real of Cypress Hill), music producer, Rick Rubin suggested that they try Chris Cornell, the ex-frontman of Soundgarden. This formula hit off immediately and the group set about recording for a first album.
After a tumultuous period, primarily concerned with management issues, Audioslave's self titled debut album was released on November 19, 2002, with "Cochise" their first single. Their second album, Out of Exile, was released in May 2005, debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. The same year, Audioslave made history by Audioslave became the first American rock group to perform an open-air concert in the communist country of Cuba.Audioslave's third album, Revelations, was released on September 5, 2006, but has been the least successful commercially. Critically, it garnered a positive response similar to its predecessor.
As of February 15, 2007, they have officially disbanded. Chris Cornell Cornell issued a statement in that he was permanently leaving the band "due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences". At the moment, Chris Cornell is working on a solo career, while the remaining trio are involved in the RATM reunion. « hide |
