System Of A Down (sometimes referred to as S.O.A.D. or System) is a rock band from Los Angeles, California that formed in 1994. The members are well known for the out spoken social and political views found in their songs. All four members are of Armenian ancestry. They all share a common bond as all four of them went to the same Armenian school here in America but graduated at different points in time.

The members are well known for the out spoken social and political views found in their songs. All four members are of Armenian ancestry. They all share a common bond as all four of them went to the same Armenian school here in America but graduated at different points in time.
System of a Down uses a wide range of instruments, including baritone electric guitars, electric mandolins, sitars, 12-string classical guitars, and many other West Asian instruments. Their main influences are most noticeably from earlier alternative rock bands. They also draw influence from the heavy metal, punk rock, jazz, fusion, Armenian folk music, classic rock, blues, and industrial genres.
System of a Down is now on "hiatus" for the next few years so the band members can have a break and focus on their solo projects.
System of a Down draws Most of the Influence for the Albums from an Event that Happened in the early 1900's to the people of there Country. The Aremenian Genocide is frequently referred to in some of there songs, although it is usually buried in the melodic, but somewhat random noises.
In Conclusion, System of a Down my be considered one of the best bands in there genre, but also they can be considered the only band in there Genre. They Mix Metal with there native Armenian Folk Music in a very original and Melodic way.
Though the band has been together for a while, they also have separate interests. One major example is Serj. He has his own "solo" act if you will called 'Serjical Strike' and was part of another band named 'The Axis of Justice.' « hide |
