Formed in 1998 by three Toronto musicians: Jamie Shields (Keyboards), Dan Kurtz (Bass), and Darren Shearer (Drums) The New Deal has become a huge hit in North America. They broke into America's music scene with their 2003 hit Gone Gone Gone, on an album of the same name. Their fast paced live electronica jam sessions have also kept them in wide acclaim. While most of their music is entirely improvised some songs have been solidified into tracks on their few albums and EPs. The band is more interested in their live shows than in any studio work, resulting in a barrage of live albums, with very few full studio albums to be found. Originally labeled as an acid-jazz group, The New Deal are constantly experimenting with their sound, adding women's vocals here and there, with the occasional sound bit added in. Touring will continue far into the future, while hopes of another album may be appeased. « hide
