A British trio composed of Stewart Copeland (drums), Andy Summers (guitar), and Sting (vocals, bass), the Police mixed elements of Punk, New Wave and Reggae to create quite an original sound. Founded by Stewart Copeland in 1977, the Police originally consisted of Copeland, Sting, and Henry Padovani on guitar. Later that year Andy Summers played with the band, at that point a 4-piece. However, during a recording session with ex-Velvet Underground member/producer John Cale, Padovani left due to his inadequate guitar skills. The three piece lineup of Sting-Summers-Copeland would remain for the rest of their existence. The Police recording many albums over the span of their career, however, their final album released in 1983, Synchronicity is commonly referred to as a classic as well as the greatest of their works.
