The Index is an underground Japanese punk band that first formed in 1985. They were one of the first wave of Oi! inspired
bands, along with Cobra, Cockney Cocks and The Wanderers. After releasing only a few singles and demo tapes, The Index
ended up disbanding in late 1991. In 1998, after several years apart, The Index reunited, and later released “Indian Rock ‘n
Roll”, which was their first-ever original album release. The group remain quite active today, and are one of the main staples in
the Japanese Oi! underground.
