Formed as a side project in 1972 by MGM executive Michael Viener The Incredible Bongo Band had a short but essential impact on music. There was no real band but session musicians looking to jam with whoever was in the MGM studio (Ringo Starr, George Harrison and Jim Gordon all make appearances on their debut). The band put out two albums; 1973's "Bongo Rock" and 1974's "The Return of The Incredible Bongo Band". Both of which have made a giant impact in hip hop and have been sampled relentlessly since.
