The Fall of Troy's began as a four-piece screamo/hardcore band under the banner of The Thirty Years War with extra guitarist and vocalist Mike Munro. During the life of The Thirty Years War, two EPs were independently put out, one titled 'Martyrs Among the Casualties' and the other a live EP titled 'Live at the Paradox'. After Mike Munro left The Thirty Years War, this is when The Fall of Troy was conceived.
The Fall of Troy draws from the prog roots of The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In and the grindcore elements of bands such as Converge and The Blood Brothers. Guitarist Thomas Erak is known for his extremely fast style of playing and his use of effects pedals, often being compared to Omar Rodriguez of the Mars Volta. The Fall of Troy is often characterized by the alternating vocals of Erak and bassist Tim Ward, Erak's vocal extremes, ranging from a soothing singing voice to a harsh shriek, and his almost excessive use of effects.
