Shroud of Bereavement

Shroud of Bereavement was created in 1996 in New Hampshire as a solo project by guitarist and vocalist Dan Robinson. The band’s first demo was finished in 1999, and it was followed by an important recording, “A Rose for a Dying Muse”, in 2001. The song took an entire year to compose, and with it completed, Robinson was ready to pursue an ambitious future for Shroud of Bereavement. After gathering musicians from a number of bands including Darkened Soul, Dark Passenger, Somber Blessings, Invertia, Dusk Raven, December Wolves, and In Memorium, Robinson formed a live line-up for the band. 2005 saw the band’s first full-length release, “...Of Ages”, a compilation of various demos recorded during the past ten years. It was released by Oak Knoll, a local label specializing in melodic death and doom metal. In 2006, also through Oak Knoll, Shroud of Bereavement and Withersoul – a melodic death/doom group from Virginia – released the split “A Maddening Hue”. After returning from the 2006 tour Premonitions, Shroud of Bereavement signed a record deal with Screaming Ferret Wreckords, and the band’s debut album, “Alone Beside Her”, saw the light of day in 2007. The band’s style can be described as neoclassical doom/death metal, which features a wide range of musical elements: dual female vocals, death vocals, cellos, pianos, violins, and doom guitars. Influences on the band include the classical composers Beethoven, Mozart, and Vivaldi, as well as various heavy metal groups such as King Diamond, Candlemass, My Dying Bride, Anathema, and Shape of Despair.
