Phreshy Duzit

As a songwriter, producer, rapper, and singer, Phreshy “Duzit” really does it all. Yet whenever asked about the “keys” to his success, Phreshy asserts that – if one looks close – they will see: behind the notoriety of every great entertainer lays a legion of fans that have used the powers of promotion and persuasion to carve a space in the musical landscape. In the midst of a childhood move, from his Brooklyn roots to the “Motor City,” Phreshy had to make an immediate – and difficult – transition to Detroit, a city whose demographic diversity was starkly different from his New York home. Since he fell into no distinct racial category, with a Polish mother and half-black/half-Greek father, Phreshy used his “bi-racial” background to draw questions – and interest – from anyone that desired to learn more about his style. When Phreshy first embarked on his musical journey, his recording process was experimental and purely recreational. Leveraging his popularity as a member of his high school’s basketball team, he would perform at local and school events. Unknowingly, he was laying the groundwork in developing – and strengthening – his confidence and comfort as a performer. But to gain national exposure, Phreshy knew that he would have to push himself further. Riding the wave of popularity behind MySpace, long before the launch of its famous “music pages,” Phreshy began to self-promote his music online and cultivate a regional following in the process. Over the course of a few years, he eventually transformed into the “self-made celebrity” that his LLC spoke into existence. Stepping from behind the “digital veil” was a bit nerve-wrecking at first, since audiences familiar with Phreshy’s music began to set a new set of expectations on his delivery and presentation. As a consequence, three guiding rules have set the foundation for his career: “Have a vision. Have a sound. Maintain both.” And with the assistance of Nylez, his main producer and confidant, the two secured millions of digital plays and downloads on various online properties – paving the way for Phreshy’s signing with Atlantic Records. When creating music, Phreshy focuses on the overall feeling, because he believes in the power and capability music has to affect a listener’s mood. His first project, HateLove makes listeners experience the nuances of both. Out of all possible human emotions, hate and love are undoubtedly the strongest. What an interesting twist then that Phreshy Duzit would release his debut EP filled with songs about the things he loves to hate, as well as those he hates to love. Considering his young age, too, his masterful crafting of a cohesive thematic work is impressive. Phreshy’s maturity extends far behind his 21 years would suggest. HateLove’s title track, in particular, revolves around a familiar muse: an ex-girlfriend. “It's me hating the fact that love gets in the way. I have a strong love for my family, but I also have a strong love for my music. And sometimes, with this career, it creates barriers. I stick to schedules and I'm flying around. So the fact that love gets in the way, that could be a reason I hate it.” One love that will never fade? Phreshy’s passion for music. Like countless numbers of aspiring artists, Phreshy recalls walking by the offices of Atlantic Records dreaming of the day he would finally land his record deal. Now, that old daydream has morphed into an exciting reality. -PhreshyMusic.com « hide
