Matthew Guiseppe

Both naturally talented and surprisingly innovative, Matthew Guiseppe has exceeded all expectations of what a pop star should be. Dubbed "Pop Music's Youngest Chameleon" by Rolling Stone, Matthew changes his pop style from soft rock, blue-eyed soul ballads to Urban Pop, R&B, Dance-Pop Uptempo club hits. Whatever he does, his talents as an amazing singer, accomplished songwriter, and a fearless artist-kind of like a young male version of Christina Aguilera- has earned him major success the best way possible: HIS way. Born on October 13, 1988, Matthew Guiseppe grew up in Chicago, Illinois with a fatuation of the bubblegum teen-pop explosion of the late-90's before he himself was even a teenager. He wanted to sing like Christina, dance like *NSYNC, drive the girls crazy like Usher, and be fearless like Britney. His parents always supported his dreams, and at age 16, his family moved from Chicago to L.A. He made such an impression that Atlantic Records signed him immediately. Despite Matthewbeing only 18 when his debut album, "Dreams," was released in March 2007, he received good reviews from critics for his impressive vocals and mature content. Ironically, "Dreams" sounded more like late-80's to mid-90's soft-rock flavored adult contenporary pop than late-90's mid-tempo teen pop, and Matthew became known for his love songs. His first single,"Evergreen," became one of the biggest hits of 2007, and the more up-tempo pop rock "Back to You" hit #7. While "Dreams" is Matthew's only album to date not to hit #1 in the U.S. it still went platinum, and sold four million copies worldwide. Matthew became the youngest male solo artist to win the "Best New Artist" Grammy, and second-youngest overallbehind LeAnn Rimes. Most critics may have saw Matthew as a breath of fresh air in an overtly-sexualized teen-obsessed pop culture, as he wrote three songs on "Dreams (including'Evergreen')," he was still pigeon-holded as a teen idol. For his follow-up, Matthew attempted to strip all pretenses, and be as mature and natural-sounding as possible. He wrote/co-wrote every song on "Save Me From Myself," released in September 2008. The lead single, "If You're Not the One" became Matthew's biggest hit, topping the Hot 100 for five weeks. Its surprisingly steamy video showed a more mature- and eventually sexier- side of Matthew, and featured his girlfriend and future wife, LA fashion designer Amy Braunstein.Future top-ten hits included "All or Nothing" and "Think Twice." After being the youngest artist to win "Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist" at the American Music Awards, Matthew appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone for the first time with the title: "More Than Just a Pop Star," with the magazine praising Matthew's singing and conservative image. However, while pleased he finally got to do what he wanted, Matthew felt compelled to not do love songs and ballads all the time . He changed his image to be tougher and sexier, but not overshadowing his impeccable vocals. Matthew also co-produced his third album, and gave it an Urban Pop, Dance-Pop sound almost completely absent on his first twoalbums. The title says it all: "All Grown Up" was released in October 2009, literally a week after Matthew turned 21. While it sold 700,000 copies its first week, the album wasn't as well received as "Save Me From Myself" as critics felt he was trying to be something he wasn't. Ironically, Rolling Stone gave itfour out of five stars, praising Matthew's production and calling it: "More believable declaration of adulthood than even some of his idols (Britney Spears "Britney," Justin Timberlake"Justified," Christina Aguilera "Stripped.") While #1 smashes like "Let Me Entertain You" and "Fast Love" were poorly received critically for their sexual content, he proved he hadn't abandoned ballads like the #3 hit "As Long As You Love Me." The album had 4 Top Five Hits, two #1's, and sold seven million copies sold in just over two years. At the 2010 American Music Awards, Matthew won 3 awards, including Artist of the Year. During his acceptance speech, Matthew thanked his fans for standing by him. After a hugely successful tour, Matthew dove deeper into dance-pop music with his fourth album "Tornado," released in February 2011. While "All Grown Up" had its share of dance hits, Matthew feltit was still rough around the edges, while his main goal for "Tornado" was just to have fun. From mid-tempo dance pop tunes like the #1 Grammy-winning (Best Dance Recording)"Say You'll Be There," and top 10 hits "Spinning Around" and the "Save Me From Myself"-like ballad "Where Do Broken Hearts Go," "Tornado" was Matthew's most varying album to date. Selling five million copies worldwide, thealbum was more visual, theatrical, and over-the-top than anything Matthew had ever done, as seen on the "Tornado World Tour."' In January 2012, Matthew returned with hisfifth album, " Heat of the Night," which showed Matthew's influences of 90's R&B. The album was Matthew'smost personal to date, focusing on his marriage to Amy, which he says made it his best album to date. Criticsagreed, as Rolling Stone called it: "One of the best albums of the year." With Matthew's 6th #1 hit, "Breathless," and the top ten "Angels" and "Save Tonight," Matthew has 6 #1 hits and 15 top ten hits, the second most for any other male artist of the 21st century, behind one of his idols, Usher. At just 25 years old, Matthew Guiseppe is a bonafide pop phenomenon, with 4 Grammy Awards and 30 million albums sold. He is an accomplished singer, songwriter, producer, and one of the most naturally talented, critically acclaimed pop singers in recent years. No matter what he does, be prepared to be left breathless. « hide
