Marvelous 3

By the time 1999 rolled around, Atlanta-based power-popsters the Marvelous 3 already had two independent releases to their name: 1997's 'Math & Other Problems' and 'Hey! By the time 1999 rolled around, Atlanta-based power-popsters the Marvelous 3 already had two independent releases to their name: 1997's 'Math & Other Problems' and 'Hey! Album' with increasing level of local success, but it took a hit single to earn the band a major label deal with Elektra Records. In early 1999, 'Freak of the Week' went global- hell it went all the way to Conan- along with a re-recorded and expanded 'Hey! Album.' Fronted by the charismatic Butch Walker and his childhood friends Jayce Fincher and "Slug," the group was already drawing comparisons with arena pop legends Cheap Trick, Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello and it's easy to see why as the band combined absurdly infectious choruses with an intelligent, hard rocking edge. That year, the band toured with Lit, Blink 182, Buckcherry and more of the year's radio rock staples. Unfortunately, the success wouldn't last long. After recording their third album, 2000's stadium rock powerhouse 'ReadySexGo!,' the label effectively told them they'd release the album but with zero promotion, and would continue to hold them to their contract. The band released two singles ('Grant Park' and 'Get Over') to predictably little fanfare before disbanding rather than risk destroying their frienship. Butch Walker has since gone on to writer and produce for a multitude of top pop and rock acts, including Avril Lavigne, P!nk, Bowling For Soup, Tommy Lee, Injected and Sevendust. He's also released two solo albums: 2001's 'Left of Self-Centered' and 2004's 'Letters.' He's due to release two more this summer: one a solo release and one with his new band, 1969. « hide
