Lovers and Reflections

Lovers and Reflections is a collaboration between vocalist, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Regan Rebecca and electronic musician and producer Chris Moore. Superimposing soul driven vocals over sophisticated, dark dance tracks ala Depeche Mode, whilst voyaging into the foggy landscape of synth-led romanticism, the two never lose the melodic thread. "We wanted to make music you could move to, music that would move you," says Rebecca. The duo met in 2005 through mutual friends and had an intense creative relationship from the start. Their friendship grew into Lovers and Reflections, which became a recording project in 2010 when the two moved to Baltimore from New York City. "We both loved New York, but opportunities of space and time- the things that grow creative projects- seemed to become scarcer and scarcer. We were both working all the time and had nowhere to record" explains Rebecca. "We had made some tracks together but didn't really hone our style or write much together until Baltimore." Chris Moore, who has worked as both a mixer and recording engineer with artists such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Liars, Midnight Juggernauts, David Bowie, Scarlett Johansson, Rain Machine, Alice Cohen, and Sofa Club, began his musical journey as an electronic musician in the 90s. Born in Baltimore, he worked in TV post-production until moving to New York City in 2002 to pursue his dream of recording, mixing and producing music. Regan Rebecca was born in the midwest and spent her late teens and early twenties moving around and writing and recording music on her four track. "I'm really a nobody from nowhere and that's the beauty of me." she says. The duo's debut album "Swords", a numerically correct concept album based on the swords suite of the Tarot, explores themes of duality, both in its sonic aesthetic and its lyrical content. "Sometimes it's about betrayal, sometimes about fighting demons inner and outer, and about loss and what happens after you lose. I felt I wanted to communicate very directly and fearlessly." says Rebecca. "Swords" was recorded in the band's home studio in 2010 and 2011, with Rebecca and Moore writing, playing, and recording every part themselves. "It's not that we really wanted this album to be a DIY thing or anything," says Moore, "It's just that we had to capture what was going on." The duo has finished writing and is in the process of recording their second record, which they are planning to release in the fall. « hide
