Their eponymously titled debut album was also a hit on both sides of the Atlantic, achieving gold record status in Canada. Between the years of ’83 and ’88, The Icicle Works released four albums, all of which earned top forty UK ranking. The Icicle Works disbanded immediately after the release of their swansong ‘Blind’. Ian went on to record one more album under the name The Icicle Works with a completely new lineup before releasing his solo debut album ‘Truth and Beauty’ which was completely self-financed and released on Andrew Lauder’s label This Way Up in 1993. The album was rapturously received by both fans and critics alike and was voted one of Q magazines ‘Best Albums Released During Q’s Lifetime’. His next solo album, Head Like A Rock, was nominated for a Mercury Prize in 1994. Since then, he has gone on to record with Neil Young's Crazyhorse, and has toured with musicians as diverse as Ringo Starr, Mike Scott (of The Waterboys), and Danny Thompson of folk legends Pentangle. McNabb has now recorded 8 solo studio albums and his first book, an autobiography entitled Merseybeast, was released in October 2008. « hide
