Hetch Hetchy was an underground alternative rock band from Athens, Georgia, that first formed in 1987. Formed by vocalist Lynda Stipe after a few years of studio work for her brother Michael Stipe’s band R.E.M., it was her first band she formed since the disbandment of her previous group Oh-OK in 1984. Unlike the limited local reach of Oh-OK, Hetch Hetchy managed to have their material released across the US, and as a result, toured quite extensively up until their sudden disbandment in 1991.
