Arguably the most famous black metal band ever, Dimmu Borgir is not what you may expect from a Norwegian black metal act. Though relatively unknown in their days of melodic black metal such as For All Tid and Stormblast, they began to gain notoriety with their unique symphonic style that took root in Enthrone Darkness Triumphant and Spiritual Black Dimensions. Dimmu Borgir isn't exactly your run-of-the-mill black metal band anymore; with the progression of their symphonic style, they have released Death Cult Armageddon, the album that blindsided the metal world with a sound that no other band has mimicked. While favoring powerful atmospheres and orchestration, Dimmu Borgir spares nothing of the fact that they are an extreme metal band. Riffs are fast, heavy, yet melodic, with strong symphonic backing and an epic air that hits listeners like a symphony from hell.
