Daft Punk are a electronic music duo, consisting of French musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo ] and Thomas Bangalter. They create catchy dance songs using influences of techno, electro-pop, and funk. Daft Punk is a very misleading band name, because their music contains no influences of punk and is straight up dance music.

Daft Punk is a very misleading band name, because their music contains no influences of punk and is straight up dance music.
Bangalter and de Homem-Christo first met in secondary school, forming an indie rock trio with a friend. This project was short lived, and the duo promptly formed Daft Punk (a magazine had dubbed their rock music to be "daft punk") and began experimenting with drum machines and synthesizers. "Homework" was released in 1997, and was widely regarded as a strong combination of techno, house, acid house and various electro styles. The album spawned the hit "Around the World" which became a dance hit around the world and featured a music video directed by Michael Gondry.
With "Discovery" in 2001, Daft Punk adopted a synthpop-oriented style. Major hits included "One More Time" and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger". 2003 saw Daft Punk produce a feature-length animated film with Japanese animator, Leiji Matsumoto, called Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem.
