Coldplay originated as a small British indie band, based heavily around Chris Martin's voice. Then came the release of the anthemic "Yellow", which truly propelled them into the big time, starting inevitable comparisons with Radiohead; huge pressure for a band that had released one album. 2002's "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" saw them reinvented as a stadium rock band, assuming the mantle of a new U2, and indeed, it wasn't long before Chris Martin declared that his ambition was for the band to overtake U2 as the biggest band in the world. While they may not yet have done this, their release of 3rd album "X&Y" is expected to be one of the biggest of 2005, and cement them as a truly global act.
