Cave In is a band that formed during 1995 in Massachusetts, initially as metal/post-hardcore outfit. In the early years of the band the frequent changes in members would breed the "debut" compilation of recorded works in the form of "Beyond Hypothermia". The first full length would not come until 1999 with "Until Your Heart Stops". When the line-up finally stabilized those remaining included Stephen Brodsky (guitar/vocals), Adam McGrath (guitar), Caleb Scofield (bass), and JR Conners (drums).
Meanwhile, a chance opportunity would spawn the "Creative Eclipses" EP, a drastic change in the sound that would eventually help to and indirectly result in 2000's "Jupiter". In Brodsky's words, it was their "first real album as a 4-piece band", and altered Cave In's approach from riffs and sonic wreckage to spacey, experimental alterna-rock. This new sound would also influence and continue into 2003's "Antenna", easily their most (relatively) mainstream record to date.
In 2005, Cave In would respond to the shift with "Perfect Pitch Black", a record that seemed to encompass a range of their styles from past records into one, along with the addition of Converge's drummer, Ben Koller. They have since moved on to a indefinite hiatus of sorts.
But wait, in april 2009 it was announced that they were not only back together, but recording new material, to be released at their reunion show at Great Scott in the form of the "Planets Of Old" Vinyl only ep. The said reunion show sold out in 4 minutes, and shocked all, fans and band members alike. The show took place on 7/19/09 « hide |
