Black Ox Orkestar

    Black Ox Orkestar formed in the summer of 2000, as a project of four Montreal musicians on the Canadian record label Constellation (renowned for its lineup of influential post-rock acts).     Black Ox Orkestar formed in the summer of 2000, as a project of four Montreal musicians on the Canadian record label Constellation (renowned for its lineup of influential post-rock acts). The music of Black Ox Orkestar became a way for these musicians to explore their shared Jewish heritage by playing Eastern European klezmer folk, and singing entirely in Yiddish. The lineup consists of Thierry Amar on double bass (a member of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra), Scott Levine Gilmore on vocals, cymbalom, guitar, mandolin, saz, violin, and various percussion (also a member of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, Gabriel Levine on clarinet and guitar (a member of Sackville and Land of Kush), and lastly, Jessica Moss who plays violin (also a member of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, and she has collaborated with Broken Social Scene on various occasions). The band recorded two albums, and then played their final show in 2005. « hide
