Review Summary: Indie Spotlight 002: An wild blend of Jazz and Electronica, Haywyre’s The Voyage is one of the most brilliant albums in the Electronic genre

If there’s anyone who could be considered a potential game changer in the Electronic industry, its small name producer Martin Vogt. He’s a brilliant producer, as he masterfully crafts Electronica and Jazz in ways that are awe-inspiring. His catchy and complex tunes cater to both ends of the Electronic fanbase stick. Heavy hitting bass lines accompanied by a flurry of glitched synths and brilliantly composed instrumentals are sown together in unique and sometimes insane ways. It’s a style he’s developed over a course of three years that makes his music easy accessible for Electronica fans of many kinds.

The Voyage is a brilliant album, let me just put that out there right now. Martin Vogt clearly shows care and dedication for each and every track on this album, never are his ideals forced or out of place and he balances his Jazz fusion when it’s only necessary and needed. Galactic Voyage doesn’t rely on cheap beats and heavy drops to attract listeners. All that’s needed is Martin and the music he loves dearly.

Although other artists have done similar fusions of Jazz and Electronica, KOAN Sound and Flying Lotus may come to mind. Haywyre stands out from other artists because of how crazy and complex his tracks are. Every song always has it’s hands full with something, rather it be a looming Chiptune melody with glitched Synths and head banging drum kick patterns or a calming Piano composition with a series of different calming electro melodies, Martin Vogt always has something up his sleeve to throw at you.- currently

Looking at certain tracks, ideas are presented that are things some wouldn’t consider to add in a track, in fact the album dares to enter into it’s own territory of music with what’s on the album. While most Electronic music is straight forward most of the time, build, drop, build, drop, finish. Or progression to ecstatic composition and then a simple fade out. Haywyre seemingly avoids a considerable structure, besides a progressive backbone his tracks can suddenly verge off into a heavy drop, kick into a simple double synth melody, and then into a piano solo.

There are no rules in the mind of Martin Vogt, and everything goes. Carrying a lot on his plate, as the album clocks over seventy minutes the album sits in the between Bebop and Glitch Hop, two genres known for their almost improvisational and nonsensical composition. It’s something that isn’t explored in Electronic music, you could even go as far as to say Martin has created his own genre of music.

Though there is one noticable problem with the album besides it’s length. As despite what was said earlier many of the tracks have a tendency to delve off into needless nonsense mainly due to their long length. Certain ideas and compositions Martin puts together don’t do a job attracting listeners and can disrupt the flow of the entire track from coming out of the blue and sounding nothing like the rest of the track beforehand. Though this only happens in a certain number of tracks so it’s a mainly forgivable error.

Overall, Martin Vogt crafts amazingly complete album filled to the brim of a colorful spectrum of Electronic and Instrumental sounds. Despite it’s long length being a long turn off, and some of the tracks delving into needless presentation with the random curveballs Martin chucks at you mid track. You’ll find something on this album you’ll enjoy rather a fan of Electronic or Jazz music, it’s a great release from Haywyre and paves the way for what can be even more fantastic work.

Edit: mixed you up with someone else. Pos'd anyway. Not a bad review, aside from maybe spending too much time on
tangents.

This needed a review. However, you REALLY could've elaborated on a lot of what you said. This is a very, VERY general review for the most part.

If there’s anyone who could be considered a potential game changer in the Electronic industry, its small name producer Martin Vogt. A man whose obsession with the musical art of Jazz and Electronic would lead to him dubbing the moniker Haywyre and pursuing a career of music unlike any other.

If you really want to talk about him, you need to expand more on what you're saying. Right here, you're saying that he's a fantastic musician/producer whose pursuing a career. It doesn't say that much about him at all.

Galactic Voyage is a brilliant album, let me just put that out there right now.

First off, it's just called The Voyage. (just nitpicking there but still :P) Second, it's another general paragraph. Give examples of what he sounds like rather than comparing him to what you think is electronic music.

Although other artists have done similar fusions of Jazz and Electronica, KOAN Sound and Flying Lotus may come to mind. Haywyre stands out from other artists because of how complex his tracks are. Looking at certain tracks, ideas are presented that for most wouldn’t be something they would consider to add in a track, in fact the album dares to enter into it’s own territory of music. Something sitting in the between of Bebop and Glitch Hop, two genres known for their almost improvisational and nonsensical composition.

How exactly are his songs complex? What ideas are in the music that is so different? What is your definition of the albums "own territory?" And that last sentence says pretty much contradicts on what you said beforehand. I'd get rid of it.

It’s quite a feat for an artist to almost completely create and establish their own genre. Martin Vogt is able to handle it though, as every Electronic tune and melody on this album is solidly produced and anchors comfortably on it’s Jazz counterpart and vice versa. Never are the songs the same. Curve balls are chucked at you in each song, and in the mind of Martin Vogt anything seemingly goes. Deep basslines, Chiptune melodies, Piano breakdowns, bebop instrumentals mid songs, you name it. Nothing is off limits on this album and everything is put together so seemingly flawlessly that there won't be a second where you’re disappointed with what you’re hearing.

Being very honest here, but you don't talk a lot on what different sounds he makes. It's very a bland and general paragraph and not many people are going to get what you're saying.

It's an okay review and I'll give you a pos for effort, but keep in mind of those things. Also, please post one review per day. It makes you look bad and unprofessional.

yeah the editing software on-site sucks though so it's probably best to do the necessary edits beforehand haha

don't really get the Haywyre hype tbh, he's pretty good but nothing special. although it's interesting that you mention both KOAN Sound and FlyLo (who are both incidentally far, far better than Haywyre IMO) and then say that Haywyre's tracks are complex (implying they're comparatively more complex than the former artists). that said, check Bonobo because he's like my favorite artist ever and he mixes jazz stuff with hip-hop and electronic super super well

and yeah as far as criticism goes what toondude says is pretty much spot-on. it's also probably a good time to point out that length doesn't necessarily equal depth - you can get really, really good one-paragraph reviews and really vague ten-paragraph ones. also genres don't get capitalized for the most part (e.g. "jazz" instead of "Jazz")

Aaand edited. I (Hopefully) did a better job going into some depth about my thoughts on the album.
Also this is the only review I uploaded today. Onyx and Knife party were uploaded yesterday one in the
day and one in the night.

meh, timezones and junk.

It's better, but it's still not 100% of what I'm looking for. Also that second to last paragraph that you added is again a little general. Maybe talk about the songs or moments that are issues for the album rather than just stating the issue. It'll help give you more on what you're trying to say if that's what you're going for.

Not to mention, because of that paragraph you might as well lower your rating to a 4. That usually means that there's at least one major flaw in the album, or at least that's what I think. You don't have to if you want.

While not entirely original, I feel that this is an offering where the execution lying within the material matters most in the end - and by Jove, does Martin hit quite a great deal of sweet spots here. It's an enjoyable, electronic-driven album that gets me tempted to check more of what makes up Haywyre's catalog. Atmospheric Evolution's a great tune and a half.

oh yay... this... review.

Check out his TwoFold pt.1 if youre looking for something similar to this and then check out his backlog if youre looking for some chiller, more atmospheric music.
