This album, along with its predecessor, are what most consider to be the darkest in the Skinny Puppy canon. For my money, Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse is a bit more disturbing than Cleanse Fold And Manipulate, but that doesn't mean the latter album is one to miss at all. It's a pretty nice extension of the explosive, corrosive, synth-heavy EBM/Electro-Industrial sound that no one has been able to match before or since. The guitar is a more pronounced part of the concoction this time around, but the synths still run the show along with the horridly perfect samples and chilling vocals. Half of the time, while the beats pulse onward and the eeriness of the synths works its way through, the vocals are more terrifying spoken word than the classic throaty bark. Needless to say, though it may seem a bit desultory next to its predecessor, Cleanse is still a quality album in a unique sound, thanks to the geniuses behind Skinny Puppy.
