some of the best gibbering, wailing and gnashing I've ever heard on record. really fascinating how sparse the beats are and how thickly this is wallpapered in unsettling samples. "The Choke" is killer, a ten star track

An album riddled with instrumental filler tracks which would be ok if they weren't so numerous. I'd say the actual tracks are: Assimilate, Dead Lines, Church, The Choke, Last Call, Social Deception.

In the mid-80's, while EBM was just starting to come to fruition in Canada, a band called Skinny Puppy would take elements from the scene and add them in to their own industrial music, pioneering what would eventually come to be called "electro-industrial". This, their first full-length album, was a release they would eventually build off of to make Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse. All the blueprints are here: the pulse-pounding, driving synths and kick drums, Nivek Ogre's venomous vocals, and the stone-cold, malevolent aesthetic that would come to characterize the band. The use of unsettling samples and whirlwinds of screams also appears here, which would be perfected on their next release. In a nutshell, it's a pretty good start for one of industrial music's most important bands.

Re-evaluating a few albums considering that I'm in an industrial feel at the moment... This album takes it's long tracks rather seriously w/ all the techno effects that the 80s had to offer for this 80s ALBUM (which is a plus for effort) while the much shorter tracks are moreorless cross me as filler, and not contextual filler as used in the conceptual-album sense. One could skip them and still not miss out on the main tracks. In contrast, this sinister-feeling album is much more enjoyable than the romantic Depeche Mode's Music For the Masses (in the industrial sense).
