Review Summary: Embrace da filth.....

These Satanic bunch of Canadian bastards really know how to serve up one brutal and demonic sounding onslaught of black metal. They're not an exact clone of Deathspell Omega, but it's very obvious that they're influenced by them as well as several old-school death metal bands. Mix all that together and you have their 2010 release From the Devil's Tomb.

To put it plain and simple, this album is evil and brutal as hell. In fact, Weapon is definitely one of the most brutal sounding black metal bands that I've heard thus far in my years of listening to metal music. This album doesn't have as many catchy riffs as it does lightning fast "face-melting" riffs. I mean this album is just unrelenting and never quits. Just riff, after riff, after riff of brutality and Satanic anger. The guitar work on this album is definitely where the death metal influence comes in. The mix of black metal tremolo picking and old-school death metal riffing is just a gift to the ears of the listener. Another great thing about this album is that it has it's fair share of solos. Not sloppy and very well executed and there's plenty of them. And while they may not be very long, they're definitely a pleasure when they show up. The drumming is fantastic as well. Savage blast beats and technical double bass work is what should be expected when going into this. The drummer doesn't get as much shine because of the nature of the riffs and solos, but if you pay attention you will know it's extremely well done.

As for the vocals, they're just menacing. When I hear these vocals I think of a mix between Ross from Immolation and Mikko from Deathspell Omega. If you can picture that combination then you can probably imagine how awesome that would sound. And that's exactly what it is. If there is one negative thing you could say about the vocals, it's the fact that they're not varied at all throughout the entire duration of the album, which is just under an hour long. That's just being nitpicky though because they're extremely good and furious sounding. This guy definitely knows his stuff and he executes almost to perfection on this album. Lyricism here is all about one thing, and that's Satan and/or Satanism. Don't think there's really too much need of an explanation there, it's pretty self-explanatory. The production of the album is really where the Deathspell Omega comparisons come into play. Just the overall unorthodox and chaotic nature of the album is just extremely similar between the two bands. The muddy feel of the instruments and other things of that nature are just very consistent with the style of each band.

From the Devil's Tomb is definitely an album worth checking out if you're a fan of black metal, death metal, or really an extreme music in general. This album is probably one of the most overlooked of the year to be honest and that should probably change quickly. This was an album that I put off looking into until the very end of 2010 and I'm kind of kicking myself for taking that long to look into it, and the band in general really. If chaos is what you're looking for then you don't need to look any further than Weapon's From the Devil's Tomb!

The first sentence is contradictory ("Mostly every single fan") and doesn't make sense.

Aside from that this review does its job. Pos.

Listen to this Filthy. I know you're not big on black metal that isn't symphonic, but give it a try.

Alright I'll give it a try if I remember that is. Plus I like the Doom/Black metal sound like Agalloch too.

Eh it's kind of an equal mixture. And the summary is pretty appropriate.
