Review Summary: Just...no.
I love Forrest Gump. It's been one of my favorite movies for as long as I can remember. I love it for its combination of many different film genres. I love it for its heartwarming themes and messages. I love it for the acting of Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Sally Field, and more. But most importantly, I love it because it's a masterfully constructed movie. It's funny, it's dramatic, it's tearjerking and heartwarming. The Forrest Gump Mile High Marathon, on the other hand, is none of these things. All it does is make me wonder what kind of drugs it takes for somebody to construct a record like this. It is not funny. It is not dramatic. It is not tearjerking or heartwarming. It is merely garbage.
The music can be summed up as such: Waking the Cadaver worship. The guitars, the drums, and the vocals all have the not so delightful stench of the "band" that almost made me lose it. The seven "songs" on this record all follow the standard deathcore/slam band formula: write as many breakdowns as possible, none of which surpass three to five chugs at a time, all played with the same note or chord, and insert the sound of a pig being stabbed in the throat over it in the form of "vocals". I have absolutely no idea what the real name of these people are as they all go by pseudonyms on the band's Facebook page, but one of them is called Brandon. Dear Brandon, NEVER MAKE MUSIC AGAIN! The bass, as usual, is completely inaudible. The vocals are an exact duplicate of Don Camplan's vocals from the first Waking the Cadaver LP. Every song opens with a sample from the movie, and they add virtually nothing to the listening experience aside from taking up almost as much runtime as the songs do. And, in true WTC ripoff fashion, the cover art is better than the album itself. Granted, the album still sucks, but anything can be better than this pile of waste.
No originality, no talent, no songwriting skills, and being a shameless ripoff of the worst "metal" band in existence propel The Forrest Gump Mile High Marathon into a stratosphere of *** that is only met by Waking the Cadaver, Blackguard, Thrashqueen, and the multitude of MySpace dwelling slamcore bands. Someone entitled the "genre" these dummies play as "Gumpcore". I see that as more reasons as to why humanity is failing. And this album contributes to that failure immensely.
