Review Summary: A tremendous display of Australian music, and experimental post hardcore.

Assemble The Empire are a five-piece progressive rock/post hardcore band from Melbourne Australia, who's self-titled EP is a tremendous display of their own musical abilities, and a perfect example of some of the fine talent coming out of the Australian music scene. Like Closure In Moscow, Assemble The Empire are expected to be another great export into the world market, which is slowly, but surely being infiltrated by hard working aussie bands, and aren't we the better for it.

Lead vocalist Matthew Tan has an extremely interesting voice, bringing us something extremely different, yet not too different as to make it not flow with the surrounding music and make the overall sound appear to be gimmicky. He stays true to the genres feel and sound in his vocals, however brings it about in a truly Australian way, where the accent is obviously the focus. Basically it sounds like Darren Cordeux of Kisschasy singing experimental post rock songs, which is a winning combination.

The album has an extremely intense feel which is credited to the extreme musicianship within the band. The guitars are technical as well as the drums and bass, and overall give an extremely colourful feel to these five tracks. This level of intensity can be thanked by the bands ability to bring elements of their live show into their stellar debut EP, where they have managed to bring us a truly great record.

Randomly found this at a record shop today, snagged it because the album art intrigued me and what a wonderful surprise it was when I popped it into my CD player.
