I am reviewing the Korn Live at CBGB Bonus DVD that comes with their Greatest Hits album.
This is a great performance from Korn. CBGB is just a small little club, but the audience was still crazy. Korn was doing this for free. It had a good light show, the insturments all sounded good, and Johnathan Davis gave a great performance himself.
The bass, like always, sounded very unique. He pulls out all of his mids, which gives it the very deep yet very high pitched bass sound. And the guitars sound thick as ever.
1.Right Now-4/5
This was a great performance. Although I thought that it was a little strange that Johnathan sung the lyrics the edited way. He said "shut up or I'll bust you up" instead of the original lyrics. Head sung the back-up vocals during the chorus for this song. But it wasn't really anything special from the album version. There wasn't much of a light show during this song though.
2.Here to Stay-4.5/5
I prefer this version over the album version. Johnathan's singing sounds even better. The light here pretty decent on this one. And the guitars sounded nice and thick.
3.Did my Time-4.5/5
I think that this live version kills the original. Johnathan's vocals are just amazing when he sings this song. The lights were about the same as on Here to Stay.
4.Got the Life-4.5/5
Johnathan once again gives a great singing performance. They began it with Fieldy doing a little bass solo. I love the light show on this song. It sorta gives you a darker view of the song, as to where the video for the song doesn't. Great performance for a great song.
5.Freak On a Leash-3.5/5
Johnathan didn't do as great on this song. David, Head, Munky, and Fieldy did a good job though.I would probably prefer the album version. Lights weren't anything special on this song either.
6.Falling Away From Me-3.5/5
Although David, Head, Munky, and Fieldy did a good job again, Johnathan didn't sing as well on here. I would probably preer the album version. The green lights on here were pretty cool though.
7.Blind-4/5
The song that started it all. The blue, green, and yellow lights were cool for this song. Johnathan's vocals didn't sound as heavy as the album, bt still did a good job. And the crowd seemed to react more to this song.
In closing, Korn did a pretty great job altogether. I think that just about any Korn fan would like this DVD.
