3.0 good | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | March 15th 24 | The owner of Maple Death Records makes the most Maple Death record out there. 'Sprecato' mostly remains in the lane of experimental darkened singer-songwriter, but the gothic oddball factor is dialed up to 11. Nearly every song takes an instrumental or atmospheric turn. This kind of variety is certainly admirable, but it would have faired better, had it been attached to better song-writing, more memorable performance. As it stands, 'Sprecato' seems more like a collection of experimentations, exercices, production trickeries, or just James generally playing with deconstruction of frame.
