Review Summary: Nifty, more Barbie tunes!
Hey youuuu welcome to Barbieland, babe. Here we listen to a lot of pop, a wittle bit that’s not, but mostly bips and borps with lavished auto-cruise-auto-tune. It’s good pop of course, the kind of music to blast in the car without a care in the world. By good I mean perfectly average and not standout-ish. Let the good times roll baby, and don’t forget to beach along with these sparkle-happy synths.
The highlights? Charli XCX has a song better than almost everything on her last release — it bangs, and has a hard drive like a computer. Sam Smith also has a song better than most things on his previous album. Wouldn’t call that song a highlight though, I mean, it’s Sam “meh” Smith. We all know the Barbie World (with Aqua) goes hard, with hard raps; without doing any research to back up my claim (teehee, that’s okay right?) it’s the best Nicki Minaj has sounded or rapped in a while, really bringing that Super Bass vibe in the song too. It’s also nice to see Tame Impala get a track, and man does it have shimmery-surreal, psychedelic spunk. Looks like the whole gang is here, folks. Time to start the party! Oopsie, forgot to invite Ken, lol.
I’m Just Ken is one of the best tracks. It’s an ode to good ol’ rock n’ roll, and exactly the type of lyrics we stan for Ken. Sadly, the soundtrack could’ve used more memorable songs like this one. Instead, it’s one pop song after the next in an endless, sugary pink loop. It’s all of one absurdly pink sound, never-ending, and changing just enough to pull the audience to the next scene. It’s like a Babymetal release but for pop peeps. Nothing wrong with that, but considering how imaginative the movie is, a fittingly creative soundtrack would’ve gathered more beach points. Wait, I usually like this. Is something wrong with me? Anyway, everything’s probably fine haha, I’m totally gonna be okay. Anyways, back to the beach!!!
