Review Summary: more like cycles of music styles amirite

Let’s get it

In the first two tracks, one gets the impression that Angra were held at gunpoint to produce the best power metals in the lands. The impression is incredible. The band play with the fingers of gods as these old men they play instruments they play instruments with their bums with a knick knack paddywack give a dawg a riff. It’s impressive how sexy their playing is, showing that these dudes are still THE dudes to compete with. Dragonforce is jelly.

Yet, later on, the album is composed of plentiful ballads. I’m talking a lot of ballads, like oodles. Ballads are great, but if you expected full force, take-off-your-clothes (due to the velocity) power metal the entire time you will be sad. You will be sad because the album oozes classic rock as much as whip snap turtle power. You might say it drags or isn’t as unique as it could be. Two points negated from Griffindor!

Have no fear, Angra will not disappoint you whiners. The singer human can hit razor notes with an edgy voice that could topple mountains, and it sounds very nice. That vibrato is to die for, especially if you’re an old boomer. Add some sexy power chords and it raises dicks in agreed unison form, a spectacle from the audience that dazzles as much as the powerful riffs. Which one goes harder? Suffice to say that both are quite interesting, but I prefer cuddling my wifey and not fantasizing about dicks cuz I’m not a virgin. Smok’s mom knows this, but anywho.

I’m eating a hamburger right now, and if it could talk it would say this album pwns. It’s a very agreeable statement, like how my face contorts into a smile when I hear this album. Old school metal isn’t dead, it is here, and it is done well. If you don’t like ballads you’re missing out. If you don’t like old boomer singing you should respect your elders.

Conclusion
🐢🐢🐢🍕/5

This was kinda meh for me. It's one of those albums I can recognize is good, but it just doesn't land for me. Wanted to give it a 2.5, but that would insinuate it is of poor quality.

I was expecting something that would surpass temple of shadows and have elements from their first two albums that gave that special feeling

To be fair, if you go into this expecting something even better than Temple or anything like their first few, then understandably you're going to be disappointed ah ha. On it's own though, it's a solid later-era Angra album.
