Review Summary: No summary for you.

^ on a side note, italics are fun.

This EP brings forth music. Beats are glitchy, which is cool, but the atmosphere stands out. Spacey synth pads and jabbed notes compliment Crosses’ darkened pop; it’s synth pop ready for a late night stroll, yet catchy. Chino’s vocals come glossed with a smidgen extra polish this time, and the digital bath is rewarding. Get it? Because Deftones have a song called Digital Bath?? God, I’m brilliant.

There’s not much evolution displayed, it’s music you expect from Crosses mostly. The only surprise is how energetic some of these songs are. A handful of bangers are across the board, and also songs that fill out the run time. Day One is a song to note, a brighter bop with an almost tropical vibe. It’s the one song I remembered well enough to write into this review. Unfortunately, tracks just came and went, and the short run time didn’t help. However, the songs are effective enough for the time it takes to listen to them. They are not as enjoyable as watching Frosty the Snowman on the TV with your family as you prepare for Christmas, but I digress.

I’m a little disappointed, because I was hoping for something edgier. Numerous directions could’ve been explored with their Matrix synths, but the territory is constructed in a tame manner. Still, with Chino’s unmistakeable, inherently atmospheric vocals, and little nuances between beats accompanying, it remains an interesting enough EP. I would’ve enjoyed some more bangers, but what’s given is enjoyable beats to drink eggnog to. There you have it, some more decent Crosses music to fill your stockings, hung with care. Good ol’ fat Chino will soon be there.

The prechorus in Vivian sounds like the prechorus of

Beggar by Glasslands, came out April this year.

I don’t understand why Initiation/Protection were added to this album - it would definitely benefit from a couple more great tracks

I still need to listen to Chino's side projects other than Palms.

I thought Palms was the worst of the Chino’s personally - Team Sleep is best!

In a new interview Chino mentioned that this EP is on the safer side cause they wanted to put out something recognizable to kind of soldify their return.

He said that the other stuff they have and are currently working on is far more experimental and some of it quite heavy too. Plans are also there for a full-length release not too far into the future. Exciting stuff.

Hmm not excited abour the heavy part. He should save those for Deftones

Well he said heavy didn't necessarily mean heavy guitars or heavy rock tracks in general, but heavier electronic stuff - whatever that means. I'm guessing something more in the vein of This is a Trick, rather than the more spaced out chill tracks on this EP.

Ok, not much better since i think This is a Trick is one of their weakest songs. Heavy doesn't work in the context of Crosses for me

Chino played a lot of George Michael on Mixlr (yup, the same place as the infamous "outta pocket" comment) so not surprised they covered that. Cadavre kinda reminds me of George Michael for some reason actually.

He also played some unreleased Crosses demos as well as some demo versions of the new stuff we've heard (Initiation, Sensation, Holier). It's interesting he says that because I wouldn't necessarily say the songs we've heard so far are any "safer" than the unreleased ones so I feel like he might just be hyping but we'll see.

Anyway what people want most is a proper tour. I demand a European tour asap
