3.0 good | Erwann S. STAFF | March 19th 24 | When Moor Mother transforms some of her jazz poetry into bona fide bars, she suddenly becomes more interesting. The abstract drumless jazz hop background works well in installing a gripping atmosphere, but that kind of ambience tends to soon bore me.

3.5 great | XSebbyMcMuffinX | December 15th 22 | Wasn't vibing at first but it started to get more in the zone. Def agree that some features don't necessarily elevate the tracks as much as they could, but they aren't bad either, so it does overall come together into a cohesive package. Some interesting moments and ideas lyrically, but I'm also not substantially wowed by any specific moment. Great for what it is.

3.5 great | ajcollins15 | July 7th 22 | Moor Mother continues to flex her ability to do a lot of different genres and ideas. Although I tend to lean more towards her other projects that are much more experimental, her rap albums are always something when they do come out. ?Jazz Codes? to many is a much more consistent and realized project than last year?s ?Black Encyclopedia of the Air?, while for me the features, for the most part, are a really heavy deterrent from this project. Much of the features do not add anything to the very hypnotic and entrancing vibe this album puts off. For most of the project, I wish Moor Mother would just have had herself and let the instrumentals take me on their own journey, rather than using some pretty low-end abstract hip-hop artists. Still, a very solid album that any abstract hip-hop fan will enjoy.
