Review Summary: Let me introduce you to the heaviest hardcore EP you’ll find in a while
Black-core isn’t even a genre but it if was I pray its something like this and not chug infested, synth passages filled songs, Black Breath manage to blend all the elements of dissonance, abrasive, trash-y in your face hardcore and make them work, the songs displayed on this EP showcase the maturity they would later expand on their debut LP.
With only four songs this CD starts off with opener
Razor to Oblivion, with power chords that have never tasted better, frantic drumming, harmonics and the hole shebang, the song never lets up, grabs you and shoves its aggressiveness down your throat weather you want to or not.
The solo at the end of this song is somewhat of a breath of fresh air, with slayer and some southern rock as clear influences in the band.
The bass is prominent and really helps to give a low end to most songs, the singer is also a major point for this band, mixing a mid range hardcore yell most of the time he also manages to channelize his inner Varg Vikerens from time to time giving the songs a different dimension and much more diversity, songs like
Fatal Error show this capabilities at their best, with ear piercing highs and crusty hardcore yells.
The production of this album is yet another improvement from your standard hardcore band, as this is an EP the production isn’t crystal clear, but they intended it to be this way, very dissonant and raw, the singing and screaming seem to be a bit fuzzed out in the mix, with some echo effects thrown in from time to time to give it a different texture, the drumming is pretty much frantic an goes perfectly with the music this 5 guys created.
The only downfall I can come across this EP is the fact that it’s an EP and therefore it’s too short, for those who wish to check this out my only advice is, Kick back and get ready for the madness to take place.
