Review Summary: Death/black metal with moments of creativity. More fun than it has right to be.

The album started promising enough, with an acoustic/drum track. It sets a nice mood similar to something Opeth might do. The second track then starts with a glorious ambient segment, only to immediately whip their death metal dicks out and *** your virgin-ass ears. Those blast beats come in like a rocket ship straight into your ass, even the bass joins the gang bang. Combined with the guitars the *** sounds choppy like if Ninja Gaiden was a metal musical. And the *** sounds ***ing bad-ass. The wall of sound created is like a force field in its fullness, and it’s a gloriously non-relaxing assault - it feels like a surprise attack in the neutral zone from the Romulans. Now that I’ve elevated your expectations to ridiculous heights let’s crash it down.

Celestial is a dece song but I got bored at the five minute mark (the song is almost nineteen minutes long). The riffs were great, but damn it I kept hearing the same melodic progression over and over again. It’s not the best song. Melancholia fairs better, a standard death metal track when it’s heavy, but with some interesting, psychedelic ambient sections that sound like U2 or Washed Out. Very spacey, and very cool with nicely sung parts. A lot of the track otherwise reminds me of Nile, especially in the harsh vocals. The next song, titled Insignificant for some reason (like you expect me to understand garbled lyrics) says “*** your feelings bitch” and turns up the heavy to max. The pace is relentless and is another ridiculously long song, but at least it’s heavy. You gotta like those extremely black metal type guitars. This band just gets the vibe right. If you wanted to call this a death metal or a black metal album you are right.

Call me a cynical whore with a baby dick, but this doesn’t go as hard as I wanted. Maybe it’s just cause I’m getting old. Maybe it’s cause I’ve listened to a thousand death metal bands and I expect excellence, but MAYBE it’s okay to have an album that’s just decent enough. I might bump this now and then which is more than I can say for a lot of death and black metal artists. I’d recommend only listening to one song at a time though to see if you have the patience to sit through another giant slogfest. Now unlike the band, I will cancel my review before it gets boring…. boooyyyyy *drops mic*

I like this, especially because of its progressive/ experimental bend. The only problem is that it starts to recycle ideas because of its length. Artwork rules too.
