4.0 excellent | Homeslice | March 22nd 12 | Though by no means a classical masterpiece, Profanum brings a whole new perspective into ambient black metal. Though at time one can almost sense the change in musical direction, it is still well done. It is well worth the listen, I hope in their next release that they can expand their instruments just a bit, as it would really add just more dimension to the music.

0.0 | Brandon Scott EMERITUS | April 7th 10 | Who needs electric instruments to make amazing black metal? Apparently not Profanum as their wholly classical Musaeum Esotericum takes the cake as one of the best black metal albums of the 21st century

4.5 superb | Zoo | February 15th 10 |
A very mature, well-produced, and classy showing of ambient/classical black metal. Dark and romantic, Musaeum Esotericum entrances the listener with the droning buzz of the guitars and infatuates him with the soothing, somber tone of the piano, the cello, and the violin.
