Review Summary: I pray for you, boys..
Boys Like Girls, one of the less regarded artists of the pop-punk world, had gone from the medieval ages back to the stone age in what is
one of the least interesting records of all time, Love Drunk. Unlike its' eponymous debut album in which had at least showed some form of
variety both musically and lyrically, this release just doesn't live up to the expectations.
-Love Drunk-
This song starts off with a beat reminiscent of a poppy Daniel Beddingfield song and contains the only agreeable riff on the song; the chorus.
The verses are lyrically shallow and show absolutely no sign of straying from its' melancholy track. ["Top down in the summer sun/The day we met was like a hit and run"]
Only notable plus side on this song, as well as the album itself, is the guitar work. 2/5
-Heart Heart Break-
From 0:00 to 3:24, you will have a heart heart break as the sampling just doesn't seem to fit the rest of the musical aspects, and even then, the
"riffs" sound poorer than that of anything ever heard on the planet. Drumming isn't bad but it is rather generic sounding and grows old fast.
Listening to this will probably leave you with "a heart heart break" at worst, and laughable at best. 1.5/5
-She's Got A Boyfriend Now-
At this point, you already know that this album is gonna sink into the very depths of the ocean of ludicriousness. This song is about the lead
singer wanting some girl but, according to the lyrics, she has a boyfriend now. Sounds like 100 other songs made about their dream girlfriends
The first three seconds of this are enjoyable with the stellar sounding intro, but this sounds the same as Heart Heart Break in relation to the
guitaring and the drums aren't too impressive either. And the lyrics? They'd be better used as toilet paper than anything. 1/5
-Two Is Better When One-
Actually, let there be none. These lyrics are all beginning to sound the same as every other song although there are acoustic guitars played
on this track as opposed to the aforementioned three, but this still doesn't redeem the record as it still sounds out of place. The female vocalist
makes for an OK change, but then again she sounds like him. 1/5
-Contagious-
The irony of this song makes one want to cry, and not in a good way either. The guitarist attempts a rhythmic buzzing funk sound, but it comes off rather
weak-sounding. I don't even know if there's a drum involved in this song, and if there is, it seems so buried into the mix that it is inaudible.
This song can just be discarded completely. 1/5
-Real Thing-
Does this song even merit a review? The instruments highly resemble a tuned-down version of Iron Maiden's "The Angel And The Gambler"
and the vocal work just sounds robotic. 1/5
-Someone Like You-
This has to be the absolute highlight of the album. For once, the country singing, some nice guitar work and the pattented drumming is
at least something to be admired. Also the most in-depth part of this song lyrically ["My life's in the rear view/I'm running from jesus"]

-Shot Heard 'Round The World-
Who needs bullets when you have this track? Stepping into this song, you get a real feel of what it's like to have your faith in pop music killed:
Buzzing guitars and the boring drumming constructs the gun and prepare it for fire while the screeching vocals pull the trigger and kill any
hope of this albums' redemption. 1/5
-The First One-
Despite its' name, this is the ninth track overall. It starts off by offering us a small acoustic intro which sounds quite nice until the vocals arrive.
The singing in this isn't singing at all; it's just talking passionately. This track at least has SOMETHING to offer unlike most. 1.5/5
-Chemicals Collide-
Now we've arrived at the station, namely Chemicals Collide. This just defies description: waning guitars and a drum which is never heard,
just like that of Contagious.Also, auto-tune fails to catch the falling debris which are the vocals. 1/5
-Go-
This violin intro being offered gives off a nice touch and compliments the rest of this song quite well although it is ruined by shallow lyrics
and vocals that could've been mistaken for harmonic speaking. 1.5/5
All in all, I'd recommend this album to those who require a few coasters for their coffees and alcohol or to those who would like to make
christmas decorations out of the CD itself, otherwise steer well clear of this release and the happy days shall roll on.
