what do u do when a band u loathe (get it) makes a relatively decent album? GB seem to finally be
making strides to not be an indolent carbon copy of every post-bm-gaze band in existence (tho they
still wear their influences i.e. the cringeworthy Silencer-esque gargles and coughs + clear rips
from the Deafheaven playbook + utilizing [though not heavily relying on anymore] common tropes of
the genre). the riffs are p solid and add a mix of some metalcore: opener, Sanguine Mask, Sinew
and Vein, Unbearable. the biggest problem with this album (and, subsequently, Starmourner as well)
is that it further solidifies the fact that we're never, ever, ever gonna get another Golden House

a remarkable improvement upon their last. the addition of actual lyrics (not just screamed
nonsense) and a general cleaning up of the jarring melodic transitions leaves Ghost Bath
with a serviceable black metal record that is definitely all their own, but still not
necessarily great
