4.0 excellent | Brandon Scott EMERITUS | September 17th 21 | Before Volahn and the Black Twilight Circle, there was Corubo. Formed in Brazil during the late 90's, Corubo was one of the first acts to hail themselves as "Indigenous Black Metal", a descriptor that can be felt throughout every facet of their music. As their first full-length in 10 years, Ajuricaba is a glorious comeback that features everything you would expect of a band so entrenched in their culture; battle-worn howls, war-flute cries, and a paradigm-shifting "humid" take on the usual frigid black metal atmosphere. Recommended chaos.
