4.0 excellent | impeachnixon | January 12th 23 | this has been a long time coming-- in 2020 i heard green eyes on the radio and have had a
note in my phone that said "green eyes - arlo parks" for two years now. the conclusion i
have come to after listening to this whole album is that for two years ive been missing out,
i should've listened to this much sooner. wild that this is a debut, i can't wait for more
from her. there were some parts which felt a bit repetitive, like a few songs that felt very
similar (hurt and hope, although great songs on their own and very individual, are an
example). that was completely mitigated by the fact that there were multiple times listening
to this album that i got chills-- parks' beautiful vocals and intricate songwriting were
very affecting. really amazing album!!

3.6 great | Erwann S. STAFF | October 27th 21 | Bedroomy neo-soul; are the 2020s gonna be the advent of massively successful bedroom muzak? With Olivia Rodrigo's massive success, Parks' 2021 Mercury Prize sure seems to indicate a trend. Notwithstanding these maybe-prophetical-maybe-not considerations, Collapsed in Sunbeams is a lovely collection of lovely songs sung by a lovely voice that sometimes falls in the background when the lush production completely takes over songwriting - ie sometimes it's beautifully vapid.
