On Songs of Praise they showed potential, with some really nice tunes in there and also tracks that focus on the darker side of things. This record to me feels much darker, and at the same time more matured. Some songs on the latter half of the album go in a kind of less-fierce Daughters kind of direction (if Daughters did post punk by the numbers) that I can see people enjoying.

I am often guilty of being too forgiving of an artist pulling too obviously from their influences and doing something that's been done before, as long as the execution is on point. Shame don't have an identity of their own, not yet. So much was obvious on their debut album, which I can't really even pen down a short sound-off for, cause there's not much I can say. But at least their musicianship has exceeded my expectations.

Well, I have to say this pretty much suited me. Specially after the first 2 tracks, which are still kinda indifferent to me. The darker tone they show on the next tracks is really spot on. Vocals are pretty standard for these new postpunk bands a la IDLES. There's def a Protomartyr vibe too.. The drumming is really good actually. So, not really innovative, but it did it with me!

words can't explain my love for this band and this album especially. beautifully arranged instrumentals, gutteral vocalist steen and fkn amazing vocalisation from the band. every song is good. some better than others, but all together make a listen in which you will never get bored. highlights include snow day, born in luton, and water in the well. just some of the best post punk uk revival i've been lucky enough to be exposed to. also a great act live. shame did it baby! amazing album i will never get bored of

At times a bit too similar to other contemporary post-punk acts but downright catchy, groovy and infectious at many points through the albums runtime. Very accessible and I wouldn't be surprised if this got some attention from folks who aren't normally into noisy, anxious post-punk. Best moment is the explosion in 'Snow Day' surrounding the lyrics about walking past the ocean, being the most beautiful thing you will ever see, and ignoring it on your way to work; that hard hitting line will stick for a long time.

Not my cup of tea at all. Does not compare to anything out there trying to make some noise. They talk the talk but do not walk the walk. Give me Sleaford mods, fontaines DC, Amyl and the Sniffers anyday
