Megadeth – Capitol Punishment

Album Information
This is Megadeth’s first compilation album which contains almost the same tracks as their second compilation ¨Greatest Hits¨. The songs are taken from their second album Peace Sells and til The World Needs A Hero, this compilation does show how good the band really are but many of the songs are often played on live-shows and other compilation CD's, people may get bored because there is so poor variation of the songs.

Some of the greatest songs on this compilation are for example Holy Wars which is one of Megadeth's classics and thats because of the highly skilled guitarwork, the incredible energy and the guitar solo battle between Dave and Marty. Another example of a great song is In My Darkest Hour, Dave wrote the song the same day Metallica's Cliff Burton died in a bus accident in Sweden. Though the lyrics is not about Cliff, the song starts of slow but it really kick butt att the end when the tempo is turned up. A third example is Peace Sells, one of Megadeth's most ¨political¨ songs.

A bad and/or annoying thing is that there is one medley in the end, the medley contains mostly of short clips from some of Megadeth's well-known songs but there is lot of wierd distortion and computer sounds that destroys the entire medley. Another thing about this album is that the song ¨A Dread And The Fugitive Mind¨ was shown here first and later appered on the album ¨The World Needs A Hero¨.

The line up is not the same on all tracks, it is all from Chris Poland, Chuck Behler, Marty Freidman and so on. There is no remixes or remastered tracks on the album which may seem a bit boring. There are few songs here that shows Megadeth’s finest moments and some of their worst.

R.I.P Gar Samuelson, died from liver complications, July 14, 1999

Pros
- Quite good collection of songs for those that haven’t heard Megadeth.
- Song like A Tout Le Monde, Holy Wars and Peace Sells are good some examples of the band finest work
- The album gives a good overlook on what Megadeth is all about

Cons
- The medley is horrible
- There is not many songs that prove that Megadeth is a great thrash-metal band

Done, this is my opinion about this album and I will recommend this album to people that haven’t listen to their music. But I think that this album would suit quite many thrashers. This compilation was not a good because it does not give a good picture on how great this band really is, there are many songs that can prove that Megadeth is a great band but unfortunatly they are not here.

Overall album rating will be: 3/5

How do three tracks represent the compilation as a whole? Sorry, but I thought the review in general was poorly written and planned out. Make sure to use good grammar and spelling (or at least go back and edit it later), and use a review format that actually makes sense.

Weak review. If you are going to do a track-by-track, than do a track-by-track. I hate this "only do the good tracks" business.

One more thing Mazz567, I didn't reviewed the ¨good tracks¨, I picked the songs that were a bit special for the album.

I think it is a waste of time to rewrite all the songs when you can find them on the other reviews.

I have done a pretty huge fix on this review so I hope it's not as bad as it has been before.

If this is still horrible I have to ask someone of the moderators to remove it.

This album is a good compilation. Vocals could be better but everything else is good. A couple tracks that should have been on here are not while Sweating Bullets shouldn't but I can't complain.

I don't really think it's that improved but considering he rewrote it in May of last year, I don't understand why you are bringing it up.

Poor compilation.
