Fireflight's ever changing musical sound has attracted fans as well as turned many away. The biggest example of the was 2015's Innova, which heavily relied on electronic beats and fake guitar riffs. Because of this, their newest offering, Who We Are: The Head and the Heart was unfairly left unnoticed. They've managed to blend rock and electronica, never leaning to much on either side (well, in most cases).
But let's be honest- it's not perfect. The album has its flaws, which they try to cover up with intensity, but it doesn't work. The album is never really able to be intense (with exceptions) because of the electronic melodies that they almost always have backing up the guitar riffs. And the eighth track, Arrow, is garbage.
But that's all the bad stuff. The album is littered with catchy hooks and inspiring lyrics. The track order and production are flawless. They've managed to hold onto songs that would have otherwise been lost in the pit of cheesiness. It has the high energy rock anthems, and the amazing ballads with the spine-shivering take-offs. All that and more.
Conclusion:
"Never forget who we are. No matter who you are or where you are, you are seen. And you are loved."
-Dawn Michele (lead singer)
