In a recent press release, Shayla admitted having had, from the start of the Junglepussy project, trouble finding her sound, and figuring out what she really wanted to do. And when that hurdle was overcome, she still had to figure out HOW to get where she wanted. And then she added: ?JP4 sounds like and feels like i got there?.rIt?s hard to tell exactly what she means by that because JP4 sounds like so many things; it feels hard to imagine she had all these vibes in mind from the start - but maybe she did. She also had to navigate early success and not getting pigeon-holed as an ?angry? rapper, even - and especially - by fans who kept wanting more of the same from her. That she managed to get over and she keeps bringing out more sides to her to the table with each project.rAcross this relatively short LP, she showcases an impressive breadth of sonics but few moments stand out from the bunch for the right reasons. She worked with a variety of producers pretty evenly throughout, which certainly helped craft a versatile sound but also led to a disparate collection of tracks. Nonetheless, one of her strengths remained unphased by thi: her candid lyricism often imbued with a twisted sense of humor can make up for unexciting melodies - she certainly has personality and shows it both through songwriting and performing.
