'Monsters' is The Midnight's fourth studio album, but despite that it shows consistent lack of maturity. Synthwave tropes set to pop music that verges from inoffensive to tasteless, all stretched to unnecessarily long runtime that could have easily been nearly halved and resulted in a decent mini-album. The Midnight excel when they offer more instrumentals-driven tracks and are mild-hit-or-miss, when the overt pop angle takes hold. The shallow drivel becomes insufferable soon.
