Death From Above 1979 started in Montreal Quebec, as a couple of friends who played bass and drums respectively and decided to make a living making totally unique music. Nuff Said. Their first 6 track EP, Heads up, was released by last gang records in 2002, and re-released in 2005 following the success of You're A Woman, I'm A Machine. Here's DFA79:

Drums/Vox: Sebastien Grainger
Bass/Synth: Jesse F. Keeler

Song Review:

Dead Womb - DFA79's 2nd best song. It starts out with some electronic kid singing some creepy song in some weird language, which follows in to a star studded performance by DFA79. The bass is something to drool at, but the drums are what really take your breath away. The chorus is a fast rap about Lookin' for wives. Actual lyrics: "were looking for wives all the time when the sluts come to us in the clubs with their cocaine". Ok, don't exactly know what it means, but what the hell it's a great song.

5/5

To Much Love - starts out with a simple bass beat, which introduces a great chorus, which is really the only highlight of this song. The verse is ok, but it's been done before. DFA79's new twist on it is good by itself, but it's nothing new.

3/5

Do It! (Live) - I don't know if Live is part of the song title, or the song is played live, but it doesn't stop this powerehouse of a song. The chorus invoves a couple talk boxes, which takes me back to those Frampton Comes Alive Days. The end kicks it up a notch, and heads into another dimension while still being faithful to the rest of the song.

4.5/5

My Love Is Shared - Starts out with a fast bass line, that sticks in there the whole song. Throughout the CD, there isn't another song similar to this one, but it's repetetive and easily gets stung in your head. It's still a great song, but not one to consider the best of the bunch.

4.5/5

Losing Friends - DFA79's take on metal. The exclusion of vocals in the first 35 seconds gets you lost in a mess of music. When the vocals come in, it turns into an epic of bass n' drum goodness. Great chorus, and the third best song on this album. I could do without the rapping verses, still.

4.5/5

If We Don't Make It, We'll Fake It - The best song ever. It's inquisitive lyrics take a dive into nothingness, and the scream at the 35 second point is amazing. The chorus comes in and continues in the stream of something based on nothing, and it leads into the dramatic ending to the album - a hard rocking bass riff accompanied by synths, and a talkbox to boot it off. A genius song, which ends a genius 15 minute album.

5/5

Definitley worth picking up if your into screamo, hardcore punk, metal, and old fashioned rock n roll. Genius!

I think these guys are awful on the album versions... I picked up this one at a concert, because they put on one hell of a show. I was disappointed. None of the energy they display on stage filters through to the album stuff.

Actual lyrics: "were looking for wives all the time when the sluts come to us in the clubs with their cocaine".

when a women dose to much cocaine she cant have a baby, her womb cant support the baby so thats wut the line means

and they are saying "we are looking for wives all the time" becuz most of the cocaine sluts need to have a guy around to give them money so they get with older men so they can have the cash for drugs

ACTUAL LYRICS!!!: we're looking for wives so tired of sluts coming to us in the clubs with their cocaine.

and i think it means that the "guys" in this song are looking for wifes but the "sluts" are hitting on them while they are on cocaine which seems to me like the "guys" are against drug use, especailly cocaine on girls for what you mentioned.

There is a mistake in the review! The Dead Womb lyrics are supposed to be "Were looking for wives, so tired of sluts coming to us in the clubs with their cocaine".

I dont know if this was posted already but I thought I'd just write it down, BTW awesome album!!!
