?Love Goes? marks a stylistic turn into electro pop with tropical house hints and EDM nods for Sam. It also introduces touches of vocal engineering we?re not used to from them, with autotune and vocoder used as texture enhancers.rThere are still several of the nearly acoustic soul-tinged moments we?re used to from them but alongside we also get dance pop anthem wannabes. Melodies are not always the strongest, the point isn?t really driven all the way home all the time. On the lyrical side, Sam have never been the strongest lyricist in the game, and there isn?t much to write home about on that front on ?Love Goes? either - which is a significant step-up from some of the high-schooler lines we got from ?In The Lonely Hour?. They don?t let it get in the way of emoting through vocal performance though - impressive as usual.rSam can really get the listener all up in their feels but the magic breaks when overproduction and strange decisions get in between the voice and our ears (I?m pretending ?Dance (?Til You Love Someone Else)? doesn?t exist - maybe we should all do that).
