Review Summary: We Came As Romans take out a lot of rawness and experiment with a few new things in creating a solid EP. Short and sweet, but lasting and fulfilling. We Came As Romans new EP, Dreams is less raw, more synthy, and more catchy. This EP is only four songs long, but lasts approximately 15 minutes in length.
When you first listen to Conditions you might feel like this is just like any other generic hardcore band out there. But as you continue to listen you'll notice that everything works, nothing seems forced, and their sung vocals... big improvement from their older material.
The guitar work is fairly generic, but it does what it needs to do, and doesn't interfere with the music, but when you have two guitarists, the genericness seems even more generic. The bass.... well you'll occasionally hear it. The synth does a very nice job in being there when needed, it's prevalent, and flows well with the other instruments. The drumming is mostly generic as well, there are some fairly awesome parts, which adds a nice element when present.
Now one of the biggest changes is that there are some fairly dramatic parts like Shapes has the use of: violins, piano, and xylophone I believe as well. This song is easily their best song on the EP, and is a nice ending track.
There are still some tweaks that need to be made, but overall this is a nice improvement from We Came As Romans, the new things they did try worked out well, and it will be interesting to see the direction they take from here.

holy god, i like this. it is pretty generic, and the production is more glossed over than it probably should be for a post hardcore band, but at the same time, it works as an almost ... like.. technohardcore. THC. Reminds me of the recent Saosin songs that didn't suck, but with 10 times more edge. i hope these guys stick around, whoever the hell they are.

overrated rubbish. nothing special about these devil wears wannabees.
| | | Who the hell wants to be like TDWP?
Edit: also bumped to a 4 cause I still have it on my playlist. This Message Edited On 01.02.09
| | | From what i've heard from the Devil Wears Prada I honestly think this band is better, but that's not really saying much. You know,
I could get an angular haircut, wear v-neck shirts, choreograph lame stage moves, use pitch correction, quantize my drum parts,
and write music that sounds like everything else in fashion right now too, but where's the fun in that? Bands like this steal the art
out of music and make it a fucking commercial.
Does anyone remember the hair metal scene?

I think these guys are awesome.
They sound like how TDWP was supposed to sound.
| | | haha looking back on cds like this when im 40, ill probably ask myself what the hell was i thinking. but as of now its fun and enjoyable.
but i completely agree its like modern day 80's hair metal.
its all the same, but still oddly addicting and is basically a fashion.

A guy I know told me to check these guys out, so I downloaded the EP since it's only 4 songs. They sound like a worse version of The Devil Wears Prada.
Dreams is kind of a cool song with a nice hooky bit, I listen to it to go to sleep sometimes.
I wouldn't bother with the other three songs at all though, they are boring and sort of disjointed.

haha, good call stevespew
TDWP are generally a better band, I don't know why everyone has such a big problem with them, they're a talented group and continue to improve with every record they make.
As for this record, I think it's very well thought out, and you do have to bare in mind that it is an EP and is an exciting prospect of what they are capable of on a full length album - I for one am looking forward to that
