After the experimental 1978-1980 trilogy it was inevitable that Hammill would release a "songs" album. However, Sitting Targets is not only poppier and less ambitious - it's also simply badly written. Catchy melodies have never been Hammill's biggest strength and this album is a prime example of that. And the trashy 80's production doesn't help.
