It's not necessarily an essential listen by any means, but The Musings Of Miles does give further insight into what Davis was trying to concoct in the realm of cool jazz. Though only two tracks here are that prototypical cool jazz style, Davis himself wrote one of them in closer "Green Haze" (the only song written by him that appears here other than the hard bop "I Didn't") and, though he didn't write it, he does perform a great rendition of "I See Your Face Before Me". The other tracks are all upbeat hard bop renditions of songs written by other people, though the penultimate track "A Night In Tunisia" is an excellent track and the best song on the record by a few leagues. And while the compositions, whether hard bop or cool jazz, are pretty standard, it's still some quality stuff.
