Sterile burying-happy production and unconvinced vocals neuter what could actually be a decently satisfying (but unexceptional) Sonata album featuring everything from their palette of power / proggy / pop.rFans should at least give a chance to the old-styled "Message from the Sun", other highlights are "Storm the Armada", "Ismo's Got Good Reactors" and "Whirlwind", but don't let the two singles fool you becuse the whole album has more meat than what I expected. "The Last of the Lambs" for example is a very subdued song that manages to be surprisingly catchy with the little it has going on, though the production tries its best to bury it.rAll in all, yet again SA fail to reach the potential they so obviously have.rbut check "Message from the Sun" [2]

As a long time (OG in fact) Sonata Arctica fan, who still enjoyed a good part of their output since they stopped playing power metal... I can't defend them anymore. Not when they're releasing albums this bland. I didn't expect anything remarkable but FFS, please do something... a little less underwhelming?

Sonata Arctica can usually make almost any sound work and usually have at least one or two career
highlights per album. This sucks, this is easily the least inspired album this band has ever
released. I hear no passion only the death cry of the tortured Tony Kakko begging for release from
his own personal hell. Man he must really miss Jani, I know I do.
Okay there's like three decent songs on it, Message from the Sun, Demon's Cage, Ismo's Got Good
Reactors. That's it.

I wish they would call it what it is: a Tony Kakko solo project with a bunch of regularly appearing session musicians. Sonata Arctica the band has been dead for years.

Remember when Sonata Arctica was one of the best European power metal acts who made soaring music? Yeah, well those days are gone and what we're left is bland, unoriginal and deathly dull material made without any passion and energy. One of the the worst metal albums of 2019.

It's one of those albums. The worst kind: The one that avoids being terrible well enough for those who want to like it to find excuses why it would be more than a lazy load of nothing. A few nice enough melodies here, a bit of piano over the riff there, and it sounds acceptable. Is there anything to gain by an album like this? No, honestly. There will be fans that give it an average rating or higher, but in the end, it seems fair to be harsh when a band sounds this worn out. You could say, "a little less understanding". - 3.5

Sound production isn't the greatest, but there are amazing melodies and beautiful sections
found all over in this album. It might not be as fast paced as the first few albums, but
the guys aren't in thier 20s anymore. People are giving it a bit more heat than it
deserves, in the end there is still lots in here that will greatly please Sonata fans and
power metal fans alike. I think most people made up thier mind with just the 2 singles as a
basis.

Sound production in music is overrated. This is an excellent release from one of the kings
